Hello!

It’s time to take a look at what types of information should be stored on your emergency information devices. As we discussed last time, the more info the better, but we still need to be practical. Emergency professionals won’t read volumes of text in order to learn of your previous/current health conditions, so you need to offer only the most pertinent information – that which may save your life!

Top Categories for info to store:

1.Who you are
2.Who to contact in case of emergency
3.Contact info for your doctor
4.Hospital preferences
5.Insurance Information
6.Current medical conditions
7.Allergies
8.Medical history
9.Current medications list
10.Contact info for your attorney
Each of these subjects bears closer examination, so next time we’ll dig in deeper.

It’s a big subject/topic right now, but it’s also rife with confusion. First let’s look at what should be stored, then we’ll examine the how and why’s…

Obviously, the more information you can store, the better. But at some point you need to be realistic, we can’t carry a filing cabinet full of information on our backs everywhere we go. So we need to store a practical amount…

Since our focus is on medical information that can be stored electronically, let’s start to see what is available in that format. The answer…….practically everything. Your medical history, your X-rays, your test results, you name it… can now be stored electronically. Some physicians will ask for fees to convert your documents to electronic form, which is a financial decision you’ll have to make. At the least, paying for your medical history docs to be converted is probably a good idea.

We’ll cover more on what should be stored in our next segment…

Thanks for reading!
